From Classroom to Slopes
Several of TEA’s student-athletes competed individually over the last few months and have had some very impressive results. There are many more, but here are a few of these amazing TEA athletes:
Zeb Schreiber — 11th Grade
Competing at an elite level, Zeb also represented on the world stage at the Junior Freeride World Championships in Kappl, Austria. Following that, Zeb traveled to Canadian Open Junior Freeride Championships in Red Mountain, BC, where he took 3rd place and earned the coveted “Ill Eagle” Award, given to the athlete who landed the best trick of the competition.
Zeb isn’t slowing down- In March, he’s heading back to Europe for a Blizzard/Tecnica team trip, where he’ll be shooting film and photos with the team. Stay tuned for more updates on Zeb’s incredible journey!
Maddox Casanega — 5th Grade
Maddox has been making waves in Slopestyle competitions this season, competing at Boreal, Sugar Bowl, and Northstar, where he secured 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place podium finishes.
Now competing as an 11 year old in the 11-14 age group in rail jam, Maddox has proven his competitive edge. Maddox participated in Northstar’s Halfpipe this weekend, placing 1st and 3rd. Next month, he plans to compete at Nationals at Copper Mountain, with hopes of qualifying in Halfpipe, Slopestyle, and Rail Jam.
Maddox’s dedication doesn’t stop when the season ends. He will continue training in Mammoth, Austria, and Mt. Hood throughout the summer to stay at the top of his game.
Zoe Renaudin — 8th Grade
Now in her fifth competitive season, Zoe has been dedicated to freestyle mogul skiing since the age of 9. Since joining TEA this year, she has increased her training commitment while staying on top of her academics—an opportunity that wouldn’t have been possible at her previous school.
Her season started with two weeks in Austria, where she trained in Hintertux and competed in her first FIS international moguls event. She then went on to Winter Park for U.S. Selections in December and spent a week in Deer Valley in February, training on a Freestyle World Cup course built by her coach. She even had the rare opportunity to watch World Cup events from inside the officials’ area. A consistent podium finisher, Zoe remains one of the top athletes in the Far West Freestyle division.
Next up, Zoe is heading to Junior Nationals in Park City in March, followed by the U.S. Freestyle Nationals at Palisades. She’ll wrap up the season in April at Snowbird for her second FIS event before continuing her year-round training in Hintertux, South America, Oregon, and Park City. With her dedication and talent, Zoe is one to watch in the world of freestyle moguls!
Finn Lichtig-Groom — 9th Grade
As a first-year U16 competitor in the Far West Region, Finn has been making his mark on the ski racing circuit. At the GS qualifier at Northstar, he secured two top-30 finishes, followed by a strong performance in Slalom qualifiers at Sugar Bowl and Diamond Peak, where he placed 15th and 17th. Beyond individual competitions, Finn is a key member of the TEA ski team, consistently placing in the top 3 at every race he’s attended. Next week, March 2-6, he will proudly represent the Men’s Varsity Team at States alongside Barret Mason and Hudson Feldstein.
What stands out most is Finn’s ability to balance academics with his rigorous training schedule. Training five days a week, he has maintained a positive attitude and a growth mindset, proving that excellence on the slopes and in the classroom go hand in hand.
Congratulations to the student-athletes mentioned here and to ALL of the others finding success on the courts, hills, arenas and fields throughout the Tahoe region and beyond.
