5th-Graders Kick off The Impact of Natural Disasters Learning Expedition
How do natural disasters affect the people and places that experience them? How can we prepare for a natural disaster?
Our 5th-grade students have kicked off their Natural Disasters Learning Expedition. TEA Parent Rick Chapman recently had the pleasure of being a crew leader for a couple of hours this past week, harnessing their energy to create theatrical sinkhole rescues, avalanches, and flash flood scenarios as a part of their study.
The crew brainstormed and came up with creative ways of playing out natural disasters without actually causing themselves any harm. Check out a few videos Rick put together of the crew digging out “sinkhole cross sections” in the snowbanks and setting up for Lego mini-figure avalanche scenes. The crew had fun, while at the same time we talked about how these disasters can occur by way of natural geological activity and weather.
