The Jungle Book Kids is based on The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling, curated and refined by Disney to make it a more child friendly production, perfect for our Drama Club goers! Students will enjoy and create theatrical performances instructed by Beth Gamboa, Katie Bloom and Nina Meehan – three incredible performers / coaches / directors. Musical pieces will be instructed by our very own talented Music TEAcher, Emily Tessmer.

According to Musical Theater International “Banished by the ferocious tiger, Shere Khan, a human boy named Mowgli and his panther friend, Bagheera, are on the run in the deepest parts of the jungle. On their journey, the two meet a sinister snake named Kaa, a herd of elephants and a giant bear named Baloo, who teaches them the swingin’ musical rhythms of the jungle. After surviving a dangerous encounter with a band of monkeys led by King Louie, Mowgli and Bagheera are forced to run for their lives. When Shere Khan returns, our heroes must rally their fellow animals into battle and restore peace throughout the jungle.”

This production has a large, expandable ensemble and many strong, featured roles for thespians of all disciplines; singers, actresses, actors, comedians and more. Characters include Mowgli, Baloo, King Louie, Shere Khan, Kaa, Bagheera and many more! Songs also include various animals, trees, plants, rocks and many other jungle inhabitants – all roles are important and everyone is sure to contribute to culminating performances in January, and in the many practice sessions leading up to these performances.

Drama Club rehearsal sessions will include improv exercises, theater games, and targeting instruction in acting skills to help all students develop as performers.

This is a delightful comic version of the play created specially for young actors. Some leads and featured roles will be double cast, and other kids will play multiple parts. Opportunities for singing and dancing in the show, along with great costumes and special effects.
